An original 1999 Base Set holo; Shadowless and 1st Edition prints are scarcer than Unlimited, and clean high-grade copies are thinned by centering and holo scratches.
Why Mewtwo holds value
Mewtwo is one of the most recognizable Legendary Pokémon and a marquee holo from the foundational Base Set, giving it lasting cross-generational appeal. Original 1999 print runs are finite and shrink further at high grades, where centering and holo scratches make clean copies genuinely scarce. Demand is reinforced by nostalgia and Mewtwo's continued prominence across films, games, and later card releases.
- +Holographic rare in the English Base Set, the first Pokémon TCG set released outside Japan.
- +Appears across multiple Base Set print variants, including Shadowless and Unlimited runs that collectors distinguish.
- +1st Edition and Shadowless copies are considered scarcer than standard Unlimited prints.

What is the difference between Shadowless and Unlimited Mewtwo?
Shadowless cards lack the drop shadow to the right of the artwork box and were printed earlier, making them scarcer and generally more sought-after than the later Unlimited print.
How can I tell if my Base Set Mewtwo is 1st Edition?
First Edition cards carry a small '1st Edition' stamp on the lower left of the artwork. If there is no stamp, it is a Shadowless or Unlimited copy.
